Background
Armidale Plaza is the premier shopping centre within Armidale and the New England region.
Armidale is in northern NSW, situated 130km inland from the coastline and approximately halfway between Sydney and Brisbane.
The regional city is renowned for its churches and education facilities including the University of New England and a number of boarding schools.
Armidale is the major commercial, administrative and retail centre of the New England tablelands.
About the centre
Armidale Plaza is bounded by Dumaresq, Dangar, Beardy and Jessie Streets. It is anchored by Kmart and Target Country discount department stores, and mini major store, Crazy Clarks.
The centre originally consisted of a number of individual retail buildings, with approximately 16,502 sqm in retail and office space.
During 2006/2007, the centre underwent a major redevelopment to incorporate the individual buildings into a single integrated enclosed centre, and to upgrade and increase the number of car spaces in the underground carpark.
The redevelopment was completed in March 2007, with the total floor space increasing to 17,107 sqm.
